Development: Generation influence

Experimentation work:
From capturing the difference between different bedrooms from different generations I explored the idea of how the older generation could be rubbing off on the younger generation. Firstly I experimented with the idea of now and then. This is linking back to my brainstorms and adapting the bedroom concept from Rania Matar's work. My brainstorms showed a collection of images from when I was a child aged 4-8 and then another collection of images now and what I experience as a teenager in 'My Generation.' This was the idea  I wanted to achieve here with my Mum's bedroom and referring to the suggestion that something was missing in the image. I have shot images to do with now:
This is the idea that the married couple aren't paying attention to each other. I used a phone to represent the male and pills to describe the female in the images. I had the pyjama sets in a messed pile on the bed which is done up neat and tidy contrasting the two. The colours in the image caught my eye in the image as it's a variation of provocativeness and then plain pyjamas resting on top. This image is supposed to suggest the idea of being there but not. The idea that we can have somebody there as a person but we do not feel their presence because of the lack attention we pay them or they pay us.

Then:
I then took shots of how it was in the past when I was a child  and had no idea what was happening but now that I'm older I could actually tell there was something different, something wasn't the same or something wasn't enough maybe. I staged a representation of the broken marriage, placing neat pyjamas and a rose on the bed to show how it was before. The idea that it is so neatly placed on the duvet. In the second image the head board is out of focus which makes it detailed and sharp.

Further Development:
For further development I included the person in the images and intended to the show the effects the cause has. The cause was the broken marriage and I wanted to show how my mum as part of the older generation has dealt with it. The image shows a woman longing for sleep, to taking sleeping pills and being a carer for her mum. All these things, 'My Generation' have not encountered and still think everything is a mid life crisis (speaking on behalf). This is the concept behind Rania Matar's work ; capturing a person in their natural habitat. The composition for the images are all very similar and as is the background the only thing different is the feeling/emotions the character is showcasing.

Reena:
The idea of showing how older generation can influence us was built on the concept behind celebrities influencing most of 'My Generation.' The amount of Instagram posts and tweets about the recent MetBall 2014 from 'My Generation' it's an over load. It's 'My Generation' taking time to take interest in things that you won't get until you work for it. I developed on the idea that My Mum and I have dealt with things in similar ways; taking of pills, loss of a person and pressure but different pressure in a way. 'My Generation is suffering from the pressure of exams and the infatuation of not being good enough; that is the difference between now and then. But there are some similar concepts within this development and the idea that the older generation can become an influence very rarely but they can. The idea is that 'if they can do it, so can I.' I shot images of being influenced by laptop/internet, having a representation of my dad. The idea of having a food issue and not wanting to eat anything because of calories. I also included the colon image which is highly inputted into 'My Generation's systems' because as tumblr says it 'We are the generation that made mental disorders into a fashion trend.'
